Darius by Grace Ahlbom

Darius published by Dashwood Books is a monochrome exploration of the town of Taormina and its photographic history. Building off of the complicated legacy of William Von Gloeden, Ahlbom combines portraits of her subject Darius Khonsary, with landscapes of ruins interrupted by modern infrastructure. This series provides Ahlbom with an opportunity to experiment with the tropes associated to early photographic portraiture, and its staging of an imagined past.
